How to Apply for GI Bill Benefits

Click HERE to access the Department of Veterans Affairs web site for Application for VA Educational Benefits. Students may apply for benefits in one of two ways:

1) Apply Online -- complete and submit an electronic application for VA Educational benefits.

2) Apply Using a Hardcopy Form -- print the appropriate form and mail it to Carl Albert State College, VA Coordinator, 1507 So McKenna, Poteau, OK 74953 with your DD214 or NOBE if the veteran, or, the birth certificate or marriage license if a dependent of the veteran.

Student Responsibility

FIRST-TIME applicants to CASC must give to the VA Coordinator:  VA Educational Benefits Application with supporting documentation or letter of authorization from the Department of Veterans Affairs outlining approval of benefits. TRANSFER students who are currently receiving VA Educational Benefits from another institution must complete the VA Form 22-1995 "Change of Program or Place of Training" upon admission and enrollment to CASC. This form is found online at the VA web site or on Admissons website.

>> The student must contact the VA Coordinator each semester and notify them about their enrollment.
>>The student must notify the VA Coordinator when adding or dropping courses. Failure to so may result in an OVERPAYMENT of which the student will be held liable and obligated to payback to the VA.
>>The student should pre-enroll for the next semester during advertised dates in November and April. This prevents delays in monthly financial payments.
>>The student must enroll in specific courses that apply to a specific degree plan. The VA Coordinator will not approve courses for VA payment that are taken outside the degree plan. So, don't take business courses if you are an Art major -- these hours will not count toward degree and VA benefits. Failure of students to disclose change of major that results in OVERPAYMENT may make the student liable.
